Shot Scope V5 GPS Watch: An Upgrade of the Classic V3 GPS

Back in July 2020 Shot Scope launched a product which was a game changer in the world of golf – the Shot Scope V3 GPS watch. This was a step on for golfers looking for accuracy, stats, and value with no subscription fees.

I absolutely loved this watch and it 100% improved my golf game.

Since then Shot scope have launched some amazing GPS watches – however I have to say I’ve always kept a flame burning for my old V3 GPS watch

Exciting New Release – Shot Scope V5

Well you can guess how pleased I was when I heard the news this week that the V3 has had a modern day upgrade, say hello to the V5 GPS watch from Shot Scope!

So ultimately this watch is an upgrade on the V3 watch, whilst keeping most  of the best features from its recent release the X5 GPS watch.

So first up, straight out of the box you can see that it’s really similar to the X5 GPS watch. Actually, it’s identical in size, shape and weight.

The main difference though is that the V5 has 4 buttons on the side of the 1.2 inch screen rather than the touch screen display with 2 chrome buttons and multi function crown found on the X5.

I don’t mind this as due to my fat fingers I did find the touch screen problematic and the ease of pressing buttons was one thing I liked about the original V3 – so I’m really pleased this feature has come back.

It only comes in a black silicone strap option, so they’re keeping it simple, unlike in the X5 where you can choose from a variety of strap colours. This is still really comfy and dust resistant.

However on the V5 you can choose to personalize your clock display, green view display, and choose from a variety of different colors for your display text – I’ve chosen pink!.

Shot Scope V5 Tracking Tags – Improve Your Post Game Analysis

It comes with 16 tracking tags which you insert on to the end of your grip to track your shots using the shot scope app. This is really easy to set up and its a very quick process.

The tracking tag feature continues to be completely free, with no subscription and having previously used Arccos tags I think these are the best on the market, with access to over 100 tour level stats the post game analysis you get is a brilliant way to help fine tune your golf game and target improvements.

The Cost?

The price point for the V5 is £239.99, or $249.99, which is cheaper than the X5 and an excellent price in comparison to other GPS watches on the market – especially when you factor in the tracking tags which are generally only offered by more expensive brands, and nowhere else has them completely free of charge.

On the course the watch is extremely easy to use, simply navigate through the different options with the clearly displayed buttons.

I found it easy, and very quick to find my course, I remember using the V3 back in the day and I could be halfway up the first hole before it loaded the course data – not with the V5 though, the speed was excellent and it comes pre-loaded with over 36,000 courses worldwide.

Alongside the performance analytics from the tracking tags, I really liked the full hole maps on the display. From the tee you can get a clear picture of the hole you are about to play. So on this par three at my local course it clearly shows the GPS distances to green – front, middle and back, and it identifies any hazards, along with layup distances.

In the  green view you can also choose the precise pin position for even better accuracy on the full colour display.

This watch looks great!

The Shot Scope V5 GPS: Conclusion

I wanted to test its accuracy so used my brand new Shot Scope Pro ZR rangefinder and it confirmed the accuracy to the hole was spot on.

I think the Shot Scope V5 GPS is an excellent new release from Shot Scope. If you’re looking for a GPS watch this could be the perfect choice, it looks great, its easy to use, and offers brilliant post game analysis through the tracking tags and the shot scope free app.
